Double Team

So, I have become a part of Christa's group as well as the group with Tyler, Yubu, Rah and Colin.
I helped her with her shoot and will be providing my own edit.
With the other group, there will be one final group edit.

Script Outline

Scene 1: Crazy Redneck
The scene will open in a rundown dusty garage. There will be old paintings and boards along the walls. A 42inch TV set will be at the very front. The set will have graffiti on it. The purpose of the graffiti is to explain the rednecks hate of urban art. The backdrop has old paintings showing his appreciation of renaissance art. There will be a seat in front of the TV set, and a coffee table with a beer ontop.

Redneck appears on seat. Remains seated for a while.
Starts to drink and twitch.
Starts cheering and chanting at the TV as if there were a football game going on.
Random girl steps into the garage. She is pale skinned, and she watches the man as he chants.
Man keeps drinking.
Starts getting aggravated and throws down his hat.
He begins to cry and suddenly gets a serious face and stares at the TV.
He gets up, trashes the TV, breaking it apart.
He sits back down, and cheers and claps.
The character cries. He then realizes someone is watching(Not the girl, but the viewer) and turns towards the camera.

End scene1

Scene2: Penis Attack
Scene opens up with paintings with penises and seductive characters. There will be trashed desktops with porn magazines, and cables on the floor.
The character will be in a ballet outfit and sweating, breathing in and out heavily. Ballet is what she does to keep her mind occupied from what’s bothering her.

-She turns and looks at the living room area and leaps into dance.
-She continues to dance and fatigue starts to set in as she breathes in and out more heavily.
-She stops and bends to catch her breath.
-A penis comes in from the side of the frame and touches her cheek. She backs away and bumps into another penis.
-She falls down.
-The penises bombard her.

End scene2

Scene3:Blood bath
Bathroom: Messy walls, writing on mirror, with feces. Toilet full of toilet paper.

-Scene opens up with a tub full of blood.
-A few seconds in, a black male emerges from the pool of blood and sits in the tub.
-He looks around with wide open eyes and sniffs his arms one by one.
-He gets out of the tub, he staggers out to the mirror.
-He wipes his hands over the writings on the mirror, he looks at his hand and breaks down into tears.
-He hits the mirror over and over again in attempt to break it.
-He staggers out of the frame.

End scene3

Scene4:Fishbowl
Modern household. Tidy dining room, well arranged seats and table.
Man and wife stare at fishbowl.
Their children play with their toys on the same table.

End scene4

Scene5:BackYard
The scene opens up at a backyard full of people walking into each other like insects panicking. The people are all in make up. They will look pale and brainless.
They will all make a humming noise.

End scene5

Scene6
The scene opens with a messy kitchen, dirty dishes all over the floor and trash stacking up on trashcan. Food stains on the cooker and overflow of dirty water in the sink.

-Character comes out from room and starts licking dirty dishes to clean them up.
-His hands are tied behind his back.
-He will have make up that shows facial injuries
-He will be anxiously moving about, hoping up and down.
-He will be shouting ‘I need to clean it before she comes back’

SELF CRITIQUE - AMINAH dEVERE

This self-critique is an important part of your project (and grade) and reflects the learning process you went through. You self-critique narrative should include these four main areas of discussion:

A) Impact and Intent- how did you want to affect your audience?
1. On a scale of 1-10, what was the story's overall impact?

I think the stories overall impact is an 8, you do not connect emotionally with the view, but you do relate to her circumstance. This is a better outcome for me.

2. What did the story leave you thinking?

What is going to do next with her "picketing time"?

3. What did it leave you feeling?

It left me feeling satisfied with the character at the end, a semi-happy feeling. She ends the film more confident.

4. Discuss the source of the main idea that you started with and its importance to you.

What I started was the effects of judging a person before you know them, and that a similar situation like that comes back around to you to teach you a lesson.

5.Discuss the Theme or premise of the piece as you discovered it after finishing the film.

After the film, I came with a new theme about being satisfied with yourself regardless of others.

B) Clarity of Tension/Main Conflict

1. How clear was the story? Could you see all the scenes equally clearly in my mind's eye, or were some hazy?

The story comes together as its own solid piece. The scenes relate, to each other.

2. What parts could you easily and pleasurably retell, and what parts are difficult to recall?

I think whatever does not have dialog stands out, pretty strong.

C) Potential

1. Does the story feel complete?

The story feels complete but could probably use a few details that could aid the message. This might be a result of what was actually captured but with what we do have, I feel strong in my shot choices, though I feel maybe a few more would do.

2. On a scale of 1-10, rate each scene. Are they all functioning to full potential?

Scene I Morning
8
Scene II Picket
Scene III New Day
9
Scene IV Home with Jeff
8
Scene V Resolution
10
3Which elements were strong, which were weak?
The in-between conversations tend to lag a little bit at the beginning, but it later pulls itself together.

D) Feedback-- Discuss “What you want to learn to do better.”
1. Report what is working well, and what is not.

I feel my audio is working well and well as my shots in the beginning.  I think that middle gets a little funky, but it picks itself back up in the beginning. Honestly, I feel that the story is becomes more about the everyday life of this girl until she argues with a group member. This I like, it is not the original script, but it is interesting.

2. Suggest what might clarify and strengthen whatever is weak.

I want to improve more on relating shots together, and also I feel like I can grow more in the audio department. Im pretty confident in my sound transitions and how I managed to pull if off, but I found areas that could use improvement and would maybe require a secondary program. A goal of mine, probably for the summer, to learn about some audio programs and go past the basics.

JEFF MUNCY - The Brooks Museum

What type of internship are you currently involved in?

- It is a photo internship that covers special events.

What should I expect from a typical internship based off of your experiences so far?

- The don't expect much from me because I go to school at MCA, but I don't know how to answer. I guess, nothing in particular. I photo'd for them once, they liked it, and kept me around.

How do the people there treat you, do they value your contribution?

- They hear me out. Nothing has really come up, but I'm sure they would hear me out with my decision and respect it.

Do they consider you as a employee or as a student?

- They view me more as a volunteer, I do a lot of volunteer for them, but it is all respect.

Biddy Sevino - Harvest

Do you think you will pursue that job as a career?

- If they offered? No. I feel like I do not know enough of After Effects or web designing. I don't think I would fulfill their requirements, just by being an Illustrator.

Have you met/come into contact with people you can network with?

- I do not get out except for big events, but they introduce me as the intern. I'm not shoved in a closet, I get some networking opportunities, but not a lot.

Have you learned anything new since you have been there?

- They teach me some web design and After Effects. I'm becoming familiar with print to pdf and larger scale printing along with professional printing systems in sync with Illustrator.

Do you feel respected when you are working with your team?
- The people are very sociable, not like hoodies and jeans, but business casual. They all went to MCA, and it does not feel like a business environment. They take me out to lunch with them, it just seems like a group gather working on projects, like with school.

JUSTIN SMITH - The Metal Museum

How many internships have you had so far?

- Just the one.

Is this a place you would consider for a career or just a stepping stone?

- Hmm, it would be a place I would... (hesitation)..consider, yea.

How has this internship benefitted you/ enhance your previous skills?

- I'm learning some technical skills I guess, other than that, not too much of anything else.

Are you well respected with the people you work with? Do they value your importance/contribution?

- No, well maybe a few of them do.

Would you say this i a good experience?

- Yea, I would say so.

Are you able to network often?

- I guess, other artists don't seem to visit often, but people do come in and I usually greet them, say hi, introduce myself. This weekend is the big forging on the river. I'll be working on that so I suppose that would be my oppurtunity to visit and network with other artists.

Do you only do jobs related to your specific department or are you able to branch out?

- I am assigned to work in the shop smithing, but the first few weeks I just cleaned the bathrooms and swept. Lately, I've been doing sculpture related work, drilling holes in the walls, general repair. If what you're asking is do I get to visit the museum, then no, I don't really have a chance to visit the library there either.

If they were to offer you a job would you take it?

- I guess, if they did.

At the end of the internship, or whenever your time with them is done, do you think you would have reached any personal goals you've had?

Just doing the internship alone was a goal I wanted, so yes that went well.

How do you balance school with work?

It's not bad, I spend as much time there working as if it were a studio class, and actually I spend less time in class. They let me work on my projects there, and I don't have as much stress involved here either.

Spring Break!

So this spring break, my group, Team Cinema and I came together and filmed out first film. We had to total of 5 actors; 2 main actors, 2 side actors, and 1 extra, all experienced. We split our shooting into two days. Day one interior and day two exterior. On day one, setting up lighting and tripods while keeping the boom out of the way was tough. We had to maneuver ourselves into small areas and huddle ourselves with whatever we were operating. On day two, we were faced with a lot of audio challenges. Many background noises and vehicles kept popping up until i began blocking off the street. I am still really excited for the final now that I understand how to go about things, and now that I/we have all the kinks worked out!

Theme Story and Genre

  • What is the central point of the film
    • The girl realizes that there is another side other than what she grew up believing.
  • What is the goal of the film
    •  To represent each side of an argument leaving the view to come up with his/her own conclusion
  • What is the movie abstract terms
    • An unmarried activist wants a baby
Basically some key points to keep in mind about this project are how we capture the scenes with lighting and to keep in mind having a consistent tone.

Notes on Structure

Subplots!!!
It was mentioned in the reading, but i think they also help carry the story.
Recently I have been watching a drama series on ABC Family, Pretty Little Liars and the one thing about that show is that it would not be as interesting if we did not go into the lives of the other characters and connect with there individual problems. Also each characters struggle is different, unlike the an episode of a different story  I saw which the all of the character went through  certain situations desperately, the theme was still the same.

The Basics of Screenwriting

Generally writing stories has not been my strongest point, though I can come up with a general idea. For me it is easier to come up with an idea and play it out start to finish in my head, however when it comes to writing it down or discussing it verbally things get lost.

When composing a screenplay, one is basically writing out out the different shots, fade ins and outs, basically put down the visual, verbally in a specific format.

Character Wardrobe

Elizabeth:
Her style is very neat. Is mostly seen in casual pant suits - pastel ironed slacks, proper fitting button down collared shirts tucked into her pants. Has a thin brown belt, golden stud earrings, thin band brown watch on her right hand, wedding band on her left ring finger.

Jeff:
Very casual dresser, wears a lot jeans few wrinkles, his shirts are always tucked in. Shoes are kept polished, socks are shown.

Martha:
Older woman, dresses in jogging suits and out of style tennis shoes.

Assignment 2D

This past week the Digital Cinema class go together as a whole and divided itself in half. For my group, Angelique, Christa, Yubu, and Rah, we have come up with a goal.  To show our audience all sides of an argument leaving the viewer to make her/her decision well informed.

Assignment 2E

One movie that has impacted me was "The Neverending Story," I first saw it as a kid and as was blown away by the effects shown. "The Neverending Story"goes on a journey with a boy who reads a book about a kid his age and the events within the story correlate with the events that happen to the other boy in real life. Watching the movie now I saw quite a few technical things that now a days would have been corrected, along with stage props and shots of "the Nothing" destroying everything in its path. Despite whatever fault this movie has, it has encouraged me to experiment with portraying a fantasy world in real life.

Reading Assignment

Assignment 1C

I enjoyed the readings, I already do some filming on my own and some of the information was already familiar, but the Blocking section stood out the most to me. A lot of the shots I make already are generally the same, one perspective some zooming  but for this semester i want to get involved in different locations and experiment more with compositions.

Oral Presentation

Assignment 1 A

Making presentations has always been a challenge for me, but I've rehearsed this speech enough so that I can stand up and sit down. I found out about this neat little trick to eye contact a little while back, just look at the middle of people's foreheads instead, seems simple enough right? Well, for this assignment I've given myself bullet points and have made this into a routine and changed the scenario. No longer am I standing in before my classmates, I am auditioning for a serious role in a film, now that should cure the nervousness?

This assignment has also pushed me to connect more with the reason why I want to create and the concept behind the creation. I have also come to make a lot of discoveries about myself in doing so, and I feel like I'm making sense, basically because I've been really pushing myself to answer these questions truthfully and to really search myself for clarity.
